On June 19, a call to revival was broadcast across Blount Baptist Association.
For the first time, a local radio station – WCRL-AM (1570) in Oneonta- aired the opening service of the annual associational revival, said Troy Halbrooks, moderator of Blount Association.
Halbrooks said the service, which aired 7:30-8 a.m., was the only broadcast of the revival, led by Bobby Bright, pastor of New Home No. 2 Baptist Church, Boaz. The broadcast and the remaining revival services- which will continue through June 24 – are being held in the associational building.
The building is equipped with a remote broadcast hookup that is also used to broadcast the association’s weekly “Blount County Baptist Hour,” which began in the 1950s, Halbrooks said.
A rotating schedule gives all of the 51 churches in the association the opportunity to host one of the weekly broadcasts, and almost all of the churches participate.
Halbrooks said the associational revival has been going on almost as long as the weekly broadcasts. “It gives all the churches an opportunity to come together.”
This year’s revival was Bright’s first time to lead the annual event, and he said he was excited about seeing the various churches gather together to worship, fellowship and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
An associational revival is a time to “spend the week getting closer to the Lord” and “get fired up,” Bright said. He said he hopes the revival will continue within the hearts of those who attended as they return to their churches, and that attendees will feel a greater need to reach out to those who do not yet know Jesus Christ as Savior.
