Board of Aid gives $270,000 to students

The Board of Aid for Students in Church Related Vocations serves students at Samford University, Judson College and the University of Mobile, as well as Samford extension students. Chairman Raymond Hutchison reported that the Board of Aid awarded 316 scholarships totaling just more than $270,000 last year.

According to the Book of Reports, the majority of the funding for the scholarships is provided by the Alabama Baptist State Convention, with smaller amounts coming from private trusts and scholarship funds.

During his report to convention messengers Tuesday morning, Hutchison described some of the recipients of the scholarships, including a young man enrolled at Samford. “He is an Indian whose goal is to become a missionary and a preacher to lost Indian tribes in this nation. Without participation in the CP, our committee would not be able to help these young people.” (TAB)
