Board wants ‘In God we trust’ in schools

DENVER — Colorado’s State Board of Education is encouraging the state’s public schools to post the national motto, “In God we trust,” on school walls. The board voted 5–1 on July 6 to approve a nonbinding resolution encouraging “appropriate display” of the motto in schools and other public buildings.

Board Chairman Clair Orr said the resolution is meant to celebrate national heritage, traditions and values. “How long can we remain a free nation if our youth don’t have civic virtue?” he asked. “The words we pass on to our young can shape our destiny.”
