Phillip Stanley “Stan” Broom, pastor of Angel Grove Baptist Church, Jacksonville, died Oct. 28. He was 63.
Broom graduated from Wellborn High School in Anniston, and later Gadsden State Community College, Jacksonville State University and Covington Theological Seminary at the Northeast Alabama extension in Anniston.
He served as pastor of several other churches in Alabama including Walnut Park Baptist Church, Gadsden; First Baptist Church, Wellington; Alexandria Baptist Church; and Mount Zion Baptist Church, Alexandria.
He was a member of the Gadsden City School Board of Education for six years and later served as vice president and president of the board.
He also was dean of Covington Seminary at the time of his death.
Broom is survived by his wife Miriam, two children and three grandchildren. (Neisha Fuson)
