Cecil O. Brown, former pastor of Keener Baptist Church, died Dec. 11. He was 83.
A Chapman native, Brown received his bachelor’s degree in religion from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and master’s and doctorate degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Some of Brown’s pastorates included Calvary Baptist Church, Gadsden; Wagarville Baptist Church; and Cahaba Heights Baptist Church.
His most recent pastorate was Keener Baptist. He also served as interim pastor for several churches and most recently as a supply preacher for Siberton Baptist Church, Attalla.
Brown also directed the Etowah Christian Institute for many years.
He was retired from his role as chaplain at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Gary Cardwell, director of missions for Etowah Baptist Association, said Brown was one of the finest men he has ever known. “His love for ministry was evident through his involvement with [Etowah Association], Gadsden Regional Medical Center chaplaincy, as well as his pastoral ministry and work with Manna Ministries,” Cardwell said. “He was loved by so many people because of his love for them.”
Brown is survived by wife Ollie, one daughter, one son and two grandsons. (TAB)
