Joe Alford Brown, pastor of Grace Memorial Baptist Church, Talladega, in Coosa River Baptist Association, died Dec. 16. He was 75.
A native of Talladega, Brown was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1952 and held degrees from Antioch Baptist Bible College Institute and Seminary in Marietta, Ga., and Trinity College in Trinity, Fla.
For nearly 60 years, he served as pastor of churches in Alabama and Georgia and preached as an evangelist. His Alabama pastorates included Ridgeview Baptist, Talladega, in Coosa River Association; Parkview Baptist, Eufaula, in Barbour Baptist Association; Iron City Baptist, Anniston, and Faith Baptist, Oxford, both in Calhoun Baptist Association; and Big Springs Baptist, Ashland, and Bowden Grove Baptist, Ashland, both in Carey Baptist Association.
“Joe Brown is a very loved man. He was one of the best encouragers I know,” said Randy Hagan, director of missions for Coosa River Association. “Joe was a mentor to a lot of young preachers and he was just an awesome individual. We’re going to really miss Joe.”
Brown is survived by his wife of 55 years, Yvonne P. Brown; three children; and seven grandchildren. (TAB)
