Camp Whispering Pines to open new hotel, thanks to volunteers

Thanks to help from volunteers, Camp Whispering Pines in Citronelle will soon have a new hotel building, an addition that will open a whole new avenue of ministry for the Mobile Baptist Association camp.

Kevin Perrigan, director of Whispering Pines, said the hotel will open up more ministry opportunities geared toward adults, as it would offer lodging for men’s or women’s conferences, marriage weekends or other activities. The camp has other bunk-bed-style housing geared more toward youth and children.

Perrigan said he hopes the hotel will be finished and ready for use in May, though more funds and volunteer help are needed to reach that goal.

A Campers on Mission (COM) group of volunteers from Alabama, Florida and Tennessee recently finished nearly three weeks worth of construction work on the new hotel. While at Whispering Pines, the volunteers’ primary work was hanging Sheetrock and framing.

The group also worked at the camp for a week in July alongside volunteers from Bethlehem Baptist Church, Midland City, in Columbia Baptist Association.

“We’re so thankful the Lord has blessed us with the opportunity to do His service,” said Glenn Whiddon, a member of Bethlehem Baptist and a COM mission projects coordinator for Alabama.
