Roy S. Isbell Sr. Bloomington, Ind.: AuthorHouse, 2011. 128 pp. (Paperback).
A campus minister at five different universities over a 45-year period, Roy Isbell wrote this book as a manual for campus ministers, pastors and religious leaders “to help you develop a successful college ministry.” The first few chapters do deal with setting up and organizing a campus ministry, including basic details such as setting up a prospect list of Baptist students and cultivating a good relationship with the faculty, staff and administration.
About halfway through the book, the focus turns to Isbell himself, becoming an autobiography complete with a chapter on his brother, the author’s personal life story and a sprinkling of photos of the author and his family.
In spite of the shifting focus of the book, it is clear that Isbell has spent his life in service to the Lord and undoubtedly influenced many youth to seek and follow Christ. His family and friends are sure to treasure the book.
