The children of Alabama can once again bring light and cheer into a dark place as they make simple, handmade Christmas cards for the women inmates at Tutwiler Prison in Wetumpka.
Children in Sunday School, missions groups and day care can use construction paper, pictures cut from old cards, short messages or original drawings to convey the love of God to the women, many of whom are mothers and cherish anything made by a child. No envelopes are needed, as Prison Fellowship volunteers will be allowed to go through the dorms and hand-deliver one card to each of the 1,000 inmates.
The project has been a resounding success for 10 years, made possible by the cooperation of the warden and chaplain of the prison and the outstanding response of children and their leaders.
The cards should be brought or mailed to the Birmingham Baptist Association, 2501 12th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35234. They must be in by Thanksgiving.
Thanks to everyone involved. As schedules permit, someone from Prison Fellowship may be available to speak to contributing groups.
