Carey Baptist Association recently kicked its crisis closet ministry up a notch with the addition of school supplies to what has largely been a food ministry in the past. According to Director of Missions Terry Smith, crayons, notebook paper, pencils and other items required at the elementary school level are made available free of charge at the request of any elementary school in Clay County or a parent of any student in need in those schools.
“It stays fairly stocked right now,” Smith said of the closet. “Our churches support us with monetary donations or they take up whatever items we need. The schools appreciate it and the people who need it appreciate it. We think it’s a very good ministry.”
There will be a food drive for the ministry in November. To contribute to the crisis closet, contact Smith at 256-354-4441 or careybaptist@centurytel.net.
