PICKENS ASSOCIATION
Carrollton Baptist Church celebrated its 175th anniversary with a special worship service on May 23.
“It was meaningful to see how the people looked to the past for inspiration and how they are looking to the future for what God is going to do,” Pastor Robert Heard said. “We are honored to be part of the Alabama Baptist family.”
David Nelson of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission presented a certificate to the church, as did Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. Lyle Dease, director of missions for Pickens Baptist Association, presented a letter, and Mickey Walker, mayor of Carrollton, gave a word of welcome. Sen. Gerald Allen offered congratulations, and Gov. Kay Ivey sent a letter of recognition.
Gary Hollingsworth — executive director-treasurer of the South Carolina Baptist Convention who was ordained at Carrollton Baptist — was the guest speaker for the morning. Church members provided special music, and many families of former pastors and staff members were in attendance.
