John Herndon, an Alabama Baptist pastor and missionary to Portugal, died May 17. He was 93. A native of Greene County, Herndon attended Howard College
He served more than 40 years as a worship pastor and servant leader in Alabama churches. He also worked for 10 years at Integrity Music, first as live events manager, then in marketing and digital content.
While in seminary, Pratt Dean felt a call to missions. He was appointed as an IMB missionary to Japan in 1966, and in 1970 he married Rita, who had been serving in Taiwan. The two served in Japan together until their retirement in 1999.

Kenneth Alan Farley of Leesburg, Alabama, formerly of Albertville, died April 6. He was 66.
Isabel Shaw Andrews Triplitt died on March 23 in Columbus, Georgia. She was 101.
James Alexander Spicer Sr., pastor of Freedom Baptist Church in Selma for nearly three decades, died March 2. He was 87.
William E. “Bill” Broome Jr., a retired preacher, died March 6. He was 89. A Georgia native, Broome was called to preach at age 15, graduated
