I appreciated your comments on “What Makes One a Baptist” in the Aug. 4 edition of The Alabama Baptist.
For me, there is one major concern. It seems to me that as freethinking persons, we do not celebrate our diversity enough. Why is it that we as Baptists don’t seem to be able to get along with one another? We have such a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate unity within our diversity.
We have a common bond in Christ Jesus, yet we argue over nonessentials of the faith as if that is all that matters.
I would like to encourage Baptists to continue to celebrate salvation in Christ Jesus and the priesthood of every believer and not worry so much about things that are secondary to our faith.
If we did this, we would be a much stronger witness for our Lord.
