We’d like to invite the Christian young people in your state to take part in a missions project with Chinese students who are taking English. Each year, we receive about 2,000 letters from Chinese students addressed “to an American Friend,” and we try to place them with Christian students in grades 7–12 to be answered.
We provide instructions and guidelines when we send the letters. After the first exchange of letters, the correspondence might be continued by mail or by e-mail, and the Christian young person may have an opportunity to share his or her faith.
The letters will come from China during December and early January. Requests for letters must come from the groups who will answer them by Jan. 15.
Individuals, as well as groups, may participate.
Requests for letters should include the following: name and mailing address of the group leader who will receive the letters, along with his or her telephone number and e-mail address if available; the number of letters needed from students in grades 7–9 and from students in grades 10–12; the name of the church and/or group that is participating; and a promise that all letters will be answered. If an American teacher would like to correspond with a Chinese teacher, ask for a teacher letter.
Other Christian groups, such as First Priority, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, World Changers, etc., are welcome to take part.
Direct all requests to: John T. Carter, Fellowship of Baptist Educators, Samford University, Box 292305, Birmingham, AL 35229; phone 205-822-4106; e-mail j-carter@juno.com.
Remember Jan. 15 is the deadline for requests.
