A Ugandan known for giving refuge to individuals converting to Christianity was attacked and killed Sept. 29, possibly because the sister of one assailant had put her faith in Christ.
Three Muslims accosted Benjamin Kule Mayani, 45, in Karambi Cell, sources told Morning Star News. Mayani taught at Excellent Nursery and Primary School, lived in Kasokero village, and had housed some former Muslims after they professed faith in Christ.

The sister of one assailant was among those Mayani had helped.
According to a source, Mayani and a colleague were contacted by phone and asked to meet the caller at the school. The source said that when the two were only a short distance away the caller and two other Muslims stopped them.
They repeatedly asked the whereabouts of the sister who had left Islam, then one struck Mayani on the head with a large stick. The colleague fled to get help but when he came back Mayani was dead, the source told Morning Star.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim and the constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, World Atlas reported.
