An update on the Alabama Baptist Christian Life Commission (CLC) was given by Phillip Morris, pastor of Heflin Baptist Church, Heflin, during the recent Alabama Baptist State Convention in Huntsville,
“We don’t speak for Alabama Baptists, but we want to be where we can inform our pastors and our churches and the laity alike on the important issues that we deal with in Christian life,” Morris said.
He said one way the CLC does that is through its newsletter. He said the newsletter addresses issues both on the state and national levels.
During 2000, Alabama, Alabama led the nation in giving by state conventions, with more than $866,000 for world hunger, Morris noted.
Sharing other news, he said the CLC observed World Hunger Sunday during the second Sunday in October. Morris said the CLC also encourages churches to place special emphasis on social issues such as the sanctity of human life, racial reconciliation and substance abuse.
