KAMPALA, Uganda — A Christian man on an evangelistic outreach in Uganda was stabbed to death and his body left in a swamp.
Islamic extremists attacked and killed James Mukenye Habiibu, 29, on Dec. 16 in Uganda’s Kibuku District. His body was found the next morning in a swamp at Kakutu, his wife told Morning Star News.

Habiibu and his wife put their faith in Jesus in January 2022. Death threats from Muslim relatives started shortly thereafter. The couple and their three young children relocated to another district for protection and worshipped at a local church.
In October, they moved back to their home district and resided in Bulangira town. Threats from relatives commenced again, she explained to Morning Star.
On Dec. 16 while on an evangelistic outreach, Habiibu called his wife to say he was being followed. The next morning, someone calling from her husband’s phone told her where to find the body.
Searching for extremists
Police are searching for several Muslim extremists suspected in Habiibu’s slaying, states Morning Star.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reported.
