A Pakistani Christian was fatally shot for rebuffing the advances of a male neighbor.
Saba Mehboob, 21, died instantly Sept. 3 from a shot to the forehead. Adnan Butt, a Muslim, reportedly killed her at her home in Rawalpindi, according to her brother, Joshua Mehboob.
He told Christian Daily International-Morning Star News that Saba, who was separated from her husband, had rejected Butt’s advances several times.
Anoosh, Saba’s 16-year-old step-brother, witnessed the killing. The suspected assailant and another man then kidnapped Anoosh and threatened his life unless he told police he was the killer, Mehboob said.
Butt threatened other family members as well if any filed a case against him, Mehboob said.
Police took Anoosh and his father into protective custody.
Protestors demand justice
The woman’s slaying sparked protests in Dhoke Ratta locality from both Christian and Muslim residents demanding Butt’s arrest, Christian Daily-Morning Star reported.
Pakistan is No. 8 on Open Doors’ 2026 World Watch List of the 50 places most difficult to be a Christian.
