Two Christian brothers sentenced to death under Pakistan’s blasphemy laws saw the country’s high court uphold the penalty for one and acquit the other.
Christian Daily International-Morning Star News reports that the Supreme Court of Pakistan upheld on Oct. 7 the death sentence of Qaiser Ayub. He had been charged under Section 295-C for allegedly posting on a website some materials seen as blasphemous toward Islam’s prophet Muhammad.

Qaiser Ayub and his brother Amoon Ayub were convicted in 2018 and given the death penalty. Their convictions were upheld in 2022 in Lahore High Court, states Christian Daily-Morning Star.
In the recent ruling, the Supreme Court determined that evidence presented against Qaiser Ayub was sufficient for upholding his sentence, but the evidence presented against Amoon Ayub was not enough to prove involvement. Amoon Ayub was ordered to be released, says Christian Daily-Morning Star.
Petition to reconsider ruling
The international legal team of the American Center for Law and Justice — and its Pakistani affiliate, Organization for Legal Aid — represented the brothers and will petition the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision against Qaiser Ayub, states the news outlet.
