Church neighbors

I am pastor of Russell Chapel Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Ala. On June 27 we were bringing our 35 teenagers home from a glorious youth camp experience when our 24-passenger bus broke down. We broke down in the driveway of Victory Christian Center in a community called Castleberry, just north of Brewton.

The heat was intense in the high 90s, and our kids were hungry. Victory opened up its doors to give us a safe haven, and a member of their church brought snacks and drinks. Another church, Appleton Assembly of God, had two members who gave ministry to us as well. They got pizza for us.

First Baptist Church of Brewton offered assistance to us but all their vans were in use.

Finally, Zion Hill Baptist Church in Castleberry came on the scene. Their pastor, Brian Garrett, brought us keys to two 15-passenger vans and said, “Take these kids home.”

Thank God for churches who express God’s love outside the walls of their church. These churches really have a “Kingdom focus.” These people will never know how they blessed us on the side of the road that day. God bless them all and thank you for printing this letter so that all Alabama Baptists can hear this wonderful testimony.
