Alabama Baptists are doing a great job when it comes to contributing to the World Hunger Offering, said Robert Ledlow, chairman of the Christian Life Commission (CLC) as he reported to state convention messengers Nov. 19.
“We gave $723,290.82 to world hunger in 2007,” he said, noting the traditional rice bowls have now changed to a bread loaf and have regained popularity of use.”
Along with promoting World Hunger Sunday each October, the CLC promotes other special Sundays throughout the year such as Sanctity of Human Life Sunday and Racial Reconciliation Sunday.
The CLC is “an influential organization,” he noted. “We study current issues and try to influence things that are going on (such as marriage amendments and wet/dry issues). We try to inform churches through publications and other things.”
Ledlow encouraged pastors to be involved in moral and ethical issues around the state. “We preachers do have influence. You are world changers.” (TAB)
