Conference to offer resources for bivocational music ministers

If you are a bivocational or part-time worship leader in your church, then the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM) is offering a conference just for you.

Scheduled for Feb. 15–16 at Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center in Talladega, the conference will provide an opportunity for worship leaders to receive quality instruction and network with other ministers.

“Less than 400 of our 3,000-plus churches have a full-time staff member whose area of ministry includes music,” said Keith Hibbs, director of the SBOM’s office of worship leadership and church music. “We are excited about offering some new training opportunities for those church musicians at smaller membership churches.”

Training at the conference will be tailored for music directors, accompanists and children’s choir leaders.

Marvin Copaus of LifeWay Christian Resources will teach music directors. Brenda Odom of First Baptist Church, Pleasant Grove, in Birmingham Baptist Association will lead sessions on the role of an accompanist as a worship leader, and Karen Gosselin, an associate in the SBOM’s office of worship leadership and church music, will share resources and teaching techniques for children’s choir leaders.

Reservations for the conference can be made through Shocco Springs at 1-800-280-1105. For more information, contact Hibbs at khibbs@alsbom.org.  (SBOM)
