Joyce Cowart has been a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Somerville, for 60 years. She has served the church in many ways through the years, including teaching all ages in Sunday School, keeping up with the church history, leading volunteer missions trips and organizing the church’s food pantry. When needed, Cowart has even cleaned the church to help it save money.
Q: Why have you done this activity?
A: It’s my church and I love doing it for the Lord.
Q: What are the demands of being involved in this type of ministry?
A: It demands time and study to do your Sunday School lessons.
Q: How do other family members support you in your work at the church?
A: My husband is also active. If I’ve got something to do for the church, he backs me up.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in the future?
A: Working as long as the Lord gives me health.
Q: What difference will it make for you in the future?
A: Maybe somebody will look and see the good I did.
Q: What do you get from it?
A: That good-all-over feeling.
