Disaster relief crews in two associations were active in their areas Nov. 16–18, helping to clean up after the storms that spawned tornadoes in central and south Alabama Nov. 15.
An F1 tornado spun through Pintlala and Montgomery, cutting a path 4.5 miles long and 250 yards wide, according to the National Weather Service.
A disaster relief team First Baptist Church, Wetumpka, both in Montgomery Baptist Association, went out to assess the damage Nov. 16 and performed chainsaw and tree removal services for six houses in the Taylor Crossing subdivision, according to team leader Larry Teel. No churches were damaged and the team had no plans for further relief efforts.
Twenty-four disaster relief volunteers from churches in the Salem-Troy Baptist Association headed to the Hamilton Crossroads community Nov. 16. Located just south of Brundidge, the community sustained down trees and heavy damage to houses, although no churches were damaged, said Linda Adams, administrative assistant for the association. The crews worked until Nov. 18, clearing trees and debris and placing tarps on roofs.
“Times like this are a wonderful opportunity to share the love of Jesus with people we may never meet again,” Teel said. “People often ask us if they can pay us for our help, but we just tell them, ‘No. We were paid 2,000 years ago.’” (TAB)
