Don’t miss out on Children’s Ministry Day — tomorrow

The big 1-0 — double digits!

That’s right. Tomorrow, Feb. 18, marks the 10th annual Children’s Ministry Day. It’s a special day set aside for children across the country to “Love Your Neighbor.”

It’s a major achievement and we want you to help us make it an extra-special day!

Looking for a last-minute activity you can quickly pull together?

Celebrate the day by creating special birthday bags for children whose families may not be able to otherwise provide a party. Follow these simple steps:

  • Ask each child to bring a box of cake mix and a can of frosting to the event.
  • Encourage families and other people in your congregation to donate other essential party supplies, such as plates, napkins, cups, streamers, balloons, party hats, and small trinkets. (Or, these can be easily purchased at a local discount store.)
  • Lead children to decorate large paper bags with markers.
  • Have children make cards to include in each bag with a special birthday message and a Bible verse.
  • Set up an assembly line of all the items to include in the bags.
  • Guide children as they put one of each item into the bags. (Don’t forget the card!)
  • Tie ribbon around the handles of each bag.
  • As a group, deliver the birthday bags to a local food pantry, women and children’s shelter, or another ministry that serves children.

What a fun, great way (and relatively easy, too!) to involve children in reaching out to share the love of Jesus with other children in their own communities!

WMU can’t wait to hear about how your group celebrates 10 years of Children’s Ministry Day. Be sure to share your stories with us at wmu.com/cmdreport.

Go forward!
