ABUJA, Nigeria — Some 70 worshippers were killed and four kidnapped in separate incidents in the continued onslaught against Christians in Nigeria.
On June 5, terrorists threw explosives into St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Ondo state and opened fire on congregants, Morning Star News reported. About 70 Christians were killed in the 20-minute attack and others were abducted.
Muslim Fulani herdsmen are suspected in the raid.
Nigerian Christian leaders believe the Fulani attack Christians in order to take over their land and impose the tenets of Islam.
Kidnappings
n May 25, Roman Catholic priests Stephen Ojapah and Oliver Okpara and two boys were kidnapped from the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Katsina state, Morning Star reported.
Earlier in the month two other clergymen from Katsina state — Matthew Moses of Evangelical Church Winning All and Yohanna Haruna of the Anglican church — were abducted.
Nigeria is No. 7 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian. From October 2020 through September 2021 Nigeria led the world in the number of Christians killed or kidnapped for their faith.
