My heart grieves for SBC evangelists. I have been an SBC minister/missionary for 40 years (35 of those years as a pastor). Evangelists were an essential part of revival and soul winning.
I am aware of the contemporary philosophy that the era of revivals and evangelists is over. We now “incorporate” evangelism into church ministries.
The primary problem is we are dissecting Divine Truth that we proudly proclaim. We are, however, inconsistent when we delete “evangelists” in Ephesians 4:11. We could/should eliminate “pastors/teachers” also if that is the case.
This omission has to be a major factor in the decline in SBC baptisms. Do not “evict” these God-called gifts to the church, but elevate them by using them, so that revival fires may fall once again.
