For the Cinereski trio, harmony just comes naturally.
Raised on the missions field in Seward, Alaska, sisters Beth, 18, and Rebekah, 20 — along with cousin Kristel, 20 — have served in ministry for as long as they can remember.
The girls prefer to serve through music — southern gospel to be exact. In December 2007, the trio had the opportunity to share the stage with one of its favorite southern gospel groups, opening for The Perrys at a concert at Shelton Beach Road Baptist Church in Saraland.
From Alaska to Alabama
“It wasn’t our largest performance, but it was one of our most memorable,” Beth said. “They (The Perrys) even let us sing on stage with them at the end. We all said it was something we would never forget.”
All three girls were born in Alaska, where their families served as missionaries, establishing Resurrection Bay Baptist Church in Seward in 1989. Their grandmother, Ruth Cinereski, moved from Alaska to Evergreen in 2000, followed by her sons John and Michael and their families, including Michael’s daughters, Beth and Rebekah. Though son Kelly and his family still serve in Alaska, his daughter Kristel came to live with Ruth.
At Arkadelphia Baptist Church, Evergreen, John serves as music minister and the girls sing often.
Although the trio prefers southern gospel, it also sings hymns and contemporary Christian music.
Usually accompaniment is provided by soundtracks but occasionally Kristel plays piano.
The girls started singing together about seven years ago at a pool party at their grandmother’s house. Beth said they started singing the hymn “My Jesus, I Love Thee” a cappella.
The trio sang the hymn in its Conecuh Baptist Association church the next Sunday and has been singing ever since for churches, community events and even at an Alabama Independent School Association Teachers Convention, performing for a crowd of more than 3,000.
‘Very powerful sound’
“We love singing because it is a way to worship God and use our talents. As we’ve gotten older, we’ve learned it’s all about bringing glory and honor to God,” Beth said.
And others say they do just that.
“The girls have a very powerful sound. They select music that speaks to the heart,” said Kurt Kirkland, a family friend of the Cinereskis and assistant pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Temple in Dayton, Ohio. He has heard the girls sing multiple times at his church and other events. “I always get goose bumps when I hear them sing.”
