KAMPALA, Uganda — Three members of a Ugandan family who recently put their faith in Jesus were burned to death inside their home a month later.
The three — Kaiga Muhammad, 64; wife Sawuya Kaiga and son Swagga Amuza Kaiga, 26 — died Dec. 26 when angry Muslims burned the family’s home in Kaliro town in Uganda’s Kaliro District, reports Morning Star News.

The three had put faith in Jesus on Nov. 22 when members of a church visited their home and explained the gospel of Jesus Christ. The church’s pastor told Morning Star that the son also received healing from malaria.
On Dec. 16, a village chairperson told Muhammad that he had been seen leaving a church in another village, the pastor said. Muhammad — who had been a committee member at a mosque — admitted that he and other family members had become Christians.
Two arrests
The village chairperson threatened Muhammad if they did not renounce their faith in Jesus Christ within a week, a relative told Morning Star.
A neighbor said that on Dec. 26, Muslims ignited the home with gasoline, burning the three to death.
Morning Star says two Muslims were arrested on murder and arson charges.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reports.
