BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — More than 160 volunteers from 11 states gathered in San Antonio June 8–12 to participate in FamilyFEST, a Woman’s Missionary Union-sponsored missions experience designed for adults to model a missions lifestyle to their children and other young people as they work side-by-side serving others.
While WMU’s MissionsFEST experiences are open to adults 18 years and older, FamilyFEST is open to anyone in first grade and up. In San Antonio, 36 volunteers were under the age of 18. At 16 different ministry sites throughout San Antonio, teams of volunteers offered backyard Bible clubs, conducted community surveys, did light construction and repair work, painted and prayer walked. The San Antonio FamilyFEST was a partnership between national WMU, WMU of Texas and the San Antonio Baptist Association.
Because the San Antonio Baptist Association has partnerships with both the San Antonio Housing Authority and San Antonio Parks and Recreation, FamilyFEST volunteers had the opportunity to work alongside summer missionaries in many of the housing projects and the parks and recreation facilities as they kicked off the first week of their programs with area children.
