Fire crews successfully put out a fire in the basement of the former Judson College library in Marion on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 23).
“Upon arrival, heavy smoke was observed coming from the basement floor and Marion requested mutual aid from other local departments for additional trucks and water,” Marion Fire and Rescue posted on their Facebook page.
They were assisted by crews from Suttle, Vaiden, Uniontown and Hamburg volunteer fire departments as well as cadets from the Marion Military Institute first responder fire program.

Daphne Robinson, who continues as president of the business arm of Judson, told The Alabama Baptist she was unable to share any additional information about the fire “as it is an ongoing investigation.”
“We would like to thank Marion Fire and Rescue, the Marion Police Department and all the surrounding communities who had their volunteer fire departments available to assist,” she said. “We are grateful for God’s hand on Judson and all who were involved.”
