Yes, Mr. Hancock, Jesus taught us to love our neighbor as ourselves, but that is not “our very first order of business” or “the one and only dictum,” as you claim in your letter.
Jesus never said it was. He said that the first and great commandment is “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul and with all thy mind.” That should be “our very first order of business.”
If we obey that commandment and love God to that extent, then we will love what He loves and hate what He hates. And God hates sin. Make no mistake. Homosexuality is sin. God says so.
He actually calls it an abomination (Lev. 18:22–30) and a capital crime, punishable by death (Lev. 20:13).
In the New Testament, God says through the apostle Paul that the wrath of God is revealed against such ungodliness (Rom. 1:18–32).
One more point: Paul was devoted “to the old laws,” but he never distorted the words of Jesus. Paul’s letters to the Corinthians and to others were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit Himself. That’s why they are in the Bible. We can trust them implicitly to be the truth. Your precious son needs to know this. God bless you.
