Does it seem to you that everyone is climbing aboard the Bible study bandwagon? I get many Bible studies to review, and while all have good points, few are as well balanced as this one. “Free at Last” challenges both the mind and the heart, presenting the depth needed for theological understanding and guiding the reader to personal application.
This study of the Book of Luke, intended to run from September through May, recognizes the time constraints we all have and tries, according to the author, to limit the amount of time that must be spent on “homework” each week. Even so, there is more than enough work in each session to keep participants engaged and active, with both general knowledge questions and highly personalized questions that require some deep reflection.
The author has clearly done her homework. The study has a strong scholarly foundation, drawing from notables such as Warren Wiersbe and Matthew Henry, and includes some in-depth word studies to help the reader understand the language of the original Greek texts.
Although Donner is not a household name in Bible studies like Beth Moore and Priscilla Shirer, this study might be a good choice for the serious Bible student.
