I, like many others, have been concerned that after having opposed and defeated the lottery, we have offered no plausible solution for funding education.
One morning, out of the blue, I awoke with an idea — a “voluntary tax,” $10 per month (or more). This, multiplied by the number who opposed gambling, and value education, should provide a sizable amount to educate our children (and grandchildren, as is our case).
I don’t have any idea how many families in our state would be willing to commit to this idea, but I certainly feel it is imperative that we demonstrate our willingness and commitment to supporting the education of our youth. And $10 a month is not a lot to ask. I realize there may be laws or issues of which I am not aware that would prohibit our implementing such a plan.
