Joe Garner Turman. Columbus, Ga.: Brentwood Christian Press, 2004. 179 pp. (Paperback). Order from the author at 396 Bethel Church Road, Guntersville, AL 35976, or call 256-571-4253.
Subtitled “A Marvelous Missionary Journey,” this book, produced by a retired 30-year International Mission Board missionary, is actually an autobiography focusing on Turman’s missionary service with his family, primarily in Vietnam and also Indonesia, the Philippines, Zambia and Slovakia.
This production “is a delightful book that will capture the attention of the reader as one follows the escapades of a missionary family in five fields of assignment on three continents.”
It is all here: adventure, humor, suspense, excitement, hard work and, above all, thoroughgoing commitment to God’s call to missions.
Because of the superb writing style, readers may think that the writer is also a professional journalist.
To be sure, it is a bit unusual for a missionary to be an author. This reviewer is glad this work came his way.
