Golden Gate Seminary teaches Muslim outreach

Ray Tallman has joined the faculty and staff of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary as the 2002-03 professional-in-residence at the Mill Valley, Calif., campus.

Tallman, who works with OC International based in England, will teach missions courses and serve as a personal missions resource for Golden Gate students.

The Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary graduate has worked for about 10 years in ministry to Muslims, particularly in discipleship and leadership development for Muslim background believers [MBBs, in mission parlance] who are reaching their own people groups.

He also provides leadership development and missionary mobilization for non-North American missionaries, recently providing training 80 Latin Americans, primarily Bolivians, for ministry in the Muslim world.

His teaching experience includes 16-plus years at Moody Bible Institute as a professor in the world missions department and four years at Calvary Bible College, Kansas City, Mo., as associate professor and chairman of the missions department.

Tallman served as field missionary in North Africa for seven years, prior to teaching.

Tallman received his doctor of missiology degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill., and a master’s degree in cultural anthropology from the University of Kansas.

He is author of the textbook, “An Introduction to World Mission,” published by Moody Press.

Tallman will be teaching introductory missions courses and a seminar-format course on missionary trends in the Muslim world, which will focus on post-Sept. 11 issues and multinational team building, among other topics.
