“To have time with God is a stress reliever in the middle of the day.”
These are the words of Cody Chapple, a senior at Mortimer Jordan High School in Morris and member of Gardendale’s First Baptist Church. And judging from the way half of his approximately 700 schoolmates join him once a month for worship in the school’s gym, it appears many agree with him.
CSI, or Christian Students Involved, started at the beginning of this school year for athletes but later expanded into a club open to all students. Speakers come for each of the meetings, which are held during the school day, and students help with ministries such as Operation Christmas Child. Many Baptist teens attend and help lead, and area churches help with sponsorship.
“It gives us a chance to get away from high school drama,” said senior Daniel Arant, a member of Enon Baptist Church, Morris.
