Heartfelt Appreciation

Heartfelt Appreciation

Words are inadequate to express to each of you our heartfelt appreciation for your prayers, phone calls, card, e-mails, voice-mails, prayer grams from your churches, visits to the hospital and all that you have done as our Baptist family in ministering and praying for us during the recent car accident involving our oldest daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Britt. While she was driving to work on the morning of June 20, a concrete truck pulled out in front of Bonnie on Highway 280 on the top of Double Oak Mountain. Bonnie suffered major facial damage in the accident and stayed in UAB hospital nine days. Linda McCullan, a trauma nurse, was right behind Bonnie when the accident occurred. She was the first to get to Bonnie and found that her airway was blocked and that Bonnie was struggling to breathe. She, along with state trooper T.J. Jackson, worked as an “emergency team” to position Bonnie so that the air passage could open. Mrs. McCullan also informed Trooper Jackson to call the trauma unit at UAB hospital to send the lifesaver helicopter as time was of the essence in saving Bonnie’s life. The Lord God Almighty had everyone in place to respond to this situation. Oh, how we praise Him.

Bonnie is at home now and recovering well. She underwent seven hours of facial surgery June 28. Praise be to God, she looks wonderful. Bonnie and Luke want to thank you for your prayers on their behalf.

We are counting our blessings. We want to publicly thank the trauma team, the staff of workers at UAB Hospital, Linda McCullan, state trooper T.J. Jackson, the paramedics of Cahaba Valley Fire Department and all the other people who responded to our Bonnie.

I also want to express my entire family’s deep appreciation to the staff and congregation of Lakeside Baptist Church for their tremendous support during these days. The people of Lakeside and our community have been wonderful. Also, a special thanks goes to Dr. Rick Lance and all of our State Board of Missions staff for their support and prayers. To the entire Christian community of Birmingham we say, thanks. People from all denominations have prayed for us and have called to encourage us. Indeed, as the song says, “how beautiful is the Body of Christ.”

Please continue to lift Bonnie and Luke up in your prayers in the days ahead. May the Lord bless you all for such a blessing to us at a very critical time in our lives.
