Herrod crowned Miss UM 2007

Jaye Herrod of Prattville was crowned Miss University of Mobile (UM) 2007 on Feb. 17 and will compete in the Miss Alabama Pageant, a preliminary that leads to the 2008 Miss America Pageant.

Herrod received a $1,500 scholarship along with her crown and an additional $200 scholarship as winner of the swimsuit competition.

Herrod is a sophomore music education major in UM’s Center for Performing Arts. She is also involved in UM’s Piano Ensemble, University Singers and Campus Ministries as Urban Plunge and Spring Mission Trip co-coordinator. Herrod is the daughter of Allen and Denise Herrod.

The 2005 Prattville High School graduate is a member of First Baptist Church, Prattville, in Autauga Baptist Association.

Miss UM serves as the official hostess of the university.

Her responsibilities include participation in alumni activities, homecoming, dedications, receptions and various community and student events.
   Other winners in the Miss UM 2007 pageant include: 
   – Kourtney Campbell of Mobile, first runner-up and Miss Congeniality,
   – Stacey Whitfield of Gulfport, Miss., second runner-up, and
   – Amanda Rushing of Sugar Land, Texas, talent competition winner. (UM)
