Following the June 14 reception celebrating Buddy Gray, longtime pastor of Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover, ahead of his retirement the end of June, the pastor search committee announced their recommendation for the next senior pastor this morning (June 16).

Chandler Snyder, who serves on staff with Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is a former International Mission Board missionary, will be presented to the church June 22–28. The congregation will have an opportunity to affirm Snyder as the search committee’s recommendation during the June 28 services at 9:30 and 11 a.m., following his sermon in view of a call that day.
According to Hunter Street’s bylaws when the search committee brings the recommendation to the church members, “an affirmative vote of three-fourths of those present is necessary for an affirmed choice of the senior pastor.”
Currently working on his Ph.D. from Southwestern Seminary, Snyder has a master of divinity from Southern Seminary and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky.

Snyder and his wife, Kelli, have three children.
From 2012 to 2022, the Snyders served as pioneer church planters in Madagascar, city leaders for Cape Town, South Africa, and missionary trainers for the sub-Saharan Africa affinity in Nairobi, Kenya.
Gray’s final sermon at Hunter Street (as senior pastor) is set for June 21.
EDITOR’S NOTE (June 29) — Snyder was officially affirmed and named pastor of Hunter Street on June 28.
