Acting on his professor’s admonition that it is a sin to preach boring sermons, Bobby Hopper, now director of missions for Bethel Baptist Association, became an accomplished storyteller. “I Will Speak Using Stories,” a phrase taken from Psalm 78, is a collection of Hopper’s stories, intended not just to alleviate boredom, but also to communicate spiritual truths. The author insists that the stories are all true, but reserves his “artistic” right, as all good storytellers worth their salt do.

The book is presented as a devotional, with 31 stories included — some funny, some heart-tugging, but all well told. Each story is followed by a related Scripture, some thought-provoking questions and a prayer. At the end, the reader is left hoping the author has more stories and plans for more books.
