Impact My Life: Biblical Mentoring Simplified

Elisa Pulliam. Charleston, S.C.: CreateSpace Publishing, 2012. 160 pp. (Paperback).

After reading “Imitating Jesus” by Lewie Clark, I turned to another book on discipling. While Clark’s book was primarily about men discipling men, Elisa Pulliam’s “Impact My Life” was about women mentoring women. Both books could apply relatively well to either gender, but the differences were pronounced.

Pulliam spends the first part of her book attempting to convince women that they are called, equipped and expected to mentor others. She counters the typical arguments — “But I’d Be a Hypocrite,” “But I Lack Wisdom” and “But It Is Not My Gifting,” among others, finally plunging into the nuts and bolts of what she calls “biblical mentoring.” She describes biblical mentoring as a “combination of mentoring and discipleship.”

The book is designed to be used either for personal or group study and has suggestions for use in both cases, as well as many other resource recommendations.

For anyone who has felt convicted to begin mentoring others, this book is a rich resource and a motivator.
