MEMBA, Mozambique — A resident of a Christian village in Memba, Mozambique, is reported to have been beheaded by Islamist militants.
This was Islamists’ first attack in the province of Nampula in several years, the relief group Barnabas Fund reported. Terrorists linked to the Islamic State claimed responsibility for beheading several Christians during rampages in the provinces of Cabo Delgado and Nampula.
IS-affiliated Ahlu Sunnah Wa-Jama (also called Al Shabaab) has terrorized Cabo Delgado since 2017. Because of the extreme brutality Islamists have inflicted upon Christians and moderate Muslims there, it has become known as “The Land of Fear.”
The violence IS perpetrates includes beheading, skinning and severing limbs, Barnabas Fund reported.
Increase in violence
At one time, forces of Mozambique, Rwanda and South Africa were progressing in quashing the campaign of Islamist militants, but they now seem to be expanding their reach.
Last December they kidnapped and beheaded a pastor in Cabo Delgado, then forced his widow to carry the severed head to a police station.
Mozambique is No. 41 on Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
