Jones, ‘Junior’ Jr.

Former longtime Cleburne Assoc. pastor dies at 91

William E. “Junior” Jones Jr. died Jan. 10. He was 91.

Jones was a farmer and auto salesman in Cleburne County when he was called to ministry. He served as a pastor for more than 40 years, well into his 80s.

Jones was licensed to preach by New Harmony Baptist Church, Heflin, on Oct. 2, 1967, and ordained by Bethsadia No. 1, Delta, in 1969. He was pastor of several churches in Cleburne Baptist Association, including Bethsadia No. 1; Happy Hill Baptist, Heflin; Union Hill Baptist, Ranburne; and Cedar Creek Baptist, Heflin. He also served as associate pastor at Pine Grove Baptist, Heflin, and interim pastor at New Harmony Baptist. He also served in Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Erlene, and his second wife of 19 years, Jeanette. He is survived by two children, five stepdaughters, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. (TAB)
