While Judson College has the advantage of being small in size, few institutions of higher education have had such a remarkable impact upon the world around them.
Judson women were among the first to take Christianity to China in the 19th century, established the first shelter for battered women in Alabama, were among the first from Alabama to perform with the Metropolitan Opera, the first to serve on the Alabama Supreme Court.
They are listed among best-selling authors, are distinguished as “outstanding educators” in surrounding states, are among the first women to head major research laboratories and are celebrated Mac- Arthur Fellows and Hemingway Award winners.
Judson recently completed an extraordinary academic year.
We received news every week last spring about graduating seniors granted admission to selective graduate programs and seminaries and about those offered employment well in advance of their graduation.
The college enjoyed an extraordinary year in athletics. Four of the five intercollegiate athletic teams earned invitations to national tournaments. The volleyball and basketball teams concluded their seasons with top 10 rankings. The softball team competed in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national tournament.
For the first time in the college’s history, equitation team members competed at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association’s national tournament. Throughout the riding season, the team distinguished itself in competitions at the University of South Carolina, University of Georgia, Auburn University, Berry College and against other institutions many times our size.
The board of trustees authorized the construction of the Charles F. Dunkin Athletic Park and construction began this summer.
The park will be a beautiful addition to the east campus and will include a new softball field and equine center and the groundwork for a new soccer field.
The athletic fields will meet all regulation and competitive requirements of the NCAA, and the equine center will meet the regulations of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association.
The solo performance of the Judson College Concert Choir at Carnegie Hall in February added an exclamation point to this remarkable time of student achievement.
Not only did the choir perform with precision and beauty, but these young women sang about the grace and goodness of Almighty God in their sacred performance on this internationally acclaimed stage.
As we celebrate our 168th session, we remain committed to Alabama Baptists and pledge our faithfulness to a mission that calls the college to faith in God and academic quality.
Judson College graduates continue to impact their world
