Nearly 300 middle-schoolers and chaperones from four states attended Crosspoint, a sports camp sponsored by LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention, at Judson College in Marion July 28–Aug. 1.
Judson has hosted the camp for the past 13 years, and this summer’s event was the only one held in Alabama.
“We feel very welcomed at Judson,” said camp director Katie Warren. “The facilities are very good, and we have freedom to use what we need, including the gym at Marion Military Institute across town. Many of the church groups here this week have been before and they love coming back.”
Warren and her husband, Ryan, who served as camp pastor — along with 19 other staffers — comprised the team that conducted seven other camps this summer throughout the nation.
Crosspoint, which provides instruction in about 10 sports and gives campers opportunity to choose two for morning and afternoon training, offers classes for those who are not as athletically minded, including drama, painting and scrapbooking, according to Warren. Campers also attend daily Bible studies and nightly worship.
“This summer, we’ve had a band for the first time, and this proved popular with the campers,” Warren said. “The music is upbeat and spirited, and the Bible messages are geared to the middle-schoolers.”
