Middle schoolers from around the nation converged on Judson College in Marion this summer for five CrossPoint Sports Camps.
CrossPoint offers instruction in 10 different sports, with skill levels ranging from beginner to advanced. The camp’s mission is to instill athletic excellence in its campers and present the message of Jesus Christ. Crosspoint includes daily Bible study and nightly worship.
Courtney Ross of Union University served as CrossPoint assistant camp director. She said Judson’s rural setting is good for campers. “It’s a change of pace for those who live in the city, and there are fewer distractions,” she said. “We can focus on God, and we’ve seen Him work in amazing ways. There have been many decisions made for Christ and much Christian growth. It’s been a time of growth for our staff as well.”
Ricky Clements, Judson facilities director, said Judson continues to be a popular camp location. “We’ve begun already coordinating the dates and schedule for next year with the LifeWay folks in Nashville,” Clements said. “Judson’s camp is always the first camp to fill up. A lot of Alabama churches come here year after year. They know us best and enjoy coming back. We’ve done CrossPoint for eight years. We see great advantage for the college since we have students who first came to Judson as CrossPoint campers.”
Clements said another plus for the Judson camps is the availability of the Marion Military Institute (MMI) campus down the street. He said the Judson campers use a number of facilities at MMI, including the gym, baseball and football fields and the track.
CrossPoint campers and chaperones also learn choral music, drama, puppet ministry and other skills. Evening worship features contemporary music, videos and drama.
