Judson students continue to impact their world

The 170th academic year at Judson College was a stellar one in so many respects.

Judson students were accepted to medical school at the University of South Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Indiana University. One student became the first accepted to a new dual D.M.D./Ph.D. program at UAB.

Students presented papers at the annual meeting of the Alabama Academy of Sciences, attended the 52nd United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York City and three students were named to the Women’s Leadership Institute at Auburn University.

A soccer program was inaugurated and improvements made to the Dunkin Athletic Park. Students competed in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Western Semi-Finals in New York. Our Lady Eagles softball team finished fourth in the nation at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national tournament in Decatur, Ill.

Recent education graduates were named “Rookie Teacher of the Year,” “First Year Teacher of the Year” and “Golden Apple Teacher of the Week” by ABC 33/40 television in Birmingham.

Students and their instructors traveled to Italy for a study abroad during summer term. “Marion Matters” and other local mission projects brought the love of Christ from our campus to Perry County.

The Judson Singers and Faith ensemble toured churches and public schools in Alabama sharing the gospel through music. Sixteen students are serving now as summer missionaries in five states and five foreign countries.

Another year of promise lies before us. This fall we’ll offer a new concentration in equine facilitated mental health and a social work major and have new professors coming to teach in religion, history, education and English. We remain committed to Alabama Baptists and pledge our faithfulness to a mission that calls the college to faith in God and academic quality. (JC)
