Mark Bishop
Sonlite/Crossroads
Mark Bishop is a storyteller, first and foremost. Just Pay Attention serves up a cast of memorable characters.
We meet Reverend Thomas, a gentleman who is hopelessly out of touch with modern society, in “I’m Part Of The In-Crowd Now.” The character in “That Old Lighthouse Shining Still” is out at sea when he gets caught in a storm. There’s a little girl in “I Believe That God’s In Love With Me” who is just 12 years old and confined to bed, but she has an inspiring outlook on life. “It Won’t Always Rain” revisits the story of Noah in the first verse and suggests a personal application in the second verse.
In “Just Pay Attention,” Bishop shares the story of a lady who saw the love of God through the love her family gave her. “Giddy Up, Giddy Up” is the story of Elijah and the chariot of fire. “Go Ahead And Cry” is a sentimental lyric assuring you that God is on His way to wipe away your tears. “Five Smooth Stones” compares the faith of David with the faith we should have when confronting personal giants.
Rounding out Just Pay Attention are “Great Gettin’ Up Morning” and “Tell Me The Story Of Jesus,” two familiar lyrics that complement the narrative quality of Bishop’s originals. Musically, this CD has a few spots that are slightly more aggressive than previous Bishop recordings, but it’s mostly what you’d expect.
