Kinsey Baptist dedicates historical marker during 125th anniversary

While Oct. 16 was a historic day for the members of Kinsey Baptist Church personally, it also was a historic day in the state as the church dedicated its historical marker from the Alabama Historical Association.

During the 125th anniversary celebration, old friends returned to take part in the service. David Starling, pastor of Sylvania Baptist Church, who grew up at Kinsey Baptist, was the guest speaker and Judge Alan Furr, district judge for St. Clair County who was Kinsey Baptist’s minister of music and youth in the mid-80s, led worship and sang special music.

Ellen Dewberry, Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative, presented a commemorative plaque to the Columbia Baptist Association church.

Participants were able to flip through scrapbooks and run their hands along quilts made by members and former members as they closed out the celebration with lunch. Cookbooks and church history booklets also were available for participants.
